Poetry: Favorite

You who lie and cheat and steal
Your silver tongue spins to the beat when it's playing
We who stand to watch and wait
Stay silent
The dance of seduction that you possess
Draws in crowds at peak moments
The weight of your pockets
You call your gain
But it is also the mass of your sins
Nothing you have I want.

Those above praise
Look! Look at this one who does
Look! Look at how they perform
Look! Look at the progress of their works
See how my favorite acts.

Silence is necessary when the truth will burn your tongue.
In a battle of my word against theirs
There is no chance of survival.

Don't ask me my opinion
When your own guides your hand
Don't ask me to speak out
When it endangers my stance
Don't ask me to fight
Without a club in my hand

I survive
But I'm not your favorite.
